Explore the roots of the Jewish Community of Dusseldorf in the city center. On a walking tour through the Old City and the Carlstadt quarter you learn about the history and development of Dusseldorf and the impact of the Jewish Community. Discover more about Heinrich Heine and his family, the former synagogues of Dusseldorf, the "Stolpersteine" (small monuments created to commemorate victims of the Holocaust), famous Jewish families and the Holocaust Memorial Museum.
After having explored the past of the Dusseldorf Jewish Community in the city center you will visit the Derendorf quarter in the north to explore the modern, bustling life of Germany's third-largest Jewish Community. You will visit the Jewish school center, the New Synagogue and the local JCC.
Additionally, you will visit the Jewish cemetary (part of the communal North Cemetary) with the graves of Heinrich Heine's family members, the minister of justice Josef Neuberger and the poet Rose Ausländer.
Subsequently, we will have lunch/dinner in a kosher restaurant with Jewish specialities.
